There is only a simple way by which you connect with sellers, select items you want to buy and conduct your transaction. This is simply through the internet (via the Chinese online stores). Below are examples of the functional Chinese online stores that I know
Now, a lot of persons who have attended one importing seminar or the other in the past have been exposed to the likes of www.alibaba.com, www.dhgate.com, www.aliexpress.com and a host of others not listed above.
In my experience however, the sites listed above have proven to be more effective and responsive than these old three that most people have been using. With a wide variety of commodities, a quick response system, easy payment methods, prompt and free shipping options and a proper customer support framework, these online stores have my vote over the old three. Aliexpress could be manageable and that is why I have included it in the list.
For the purpose of this guide, we will adopt www.dealsmachine.com as our main anchor. This is not to say it is better than the rest, I am just used to doing my mini-importation from there.
WHAT STEPS DO I FOLLOW FROM IDENTIFYING THE COMMODITY TO RECEIVING IN NIGERIA?
As this is a step-by-step guide to starting a mini-importation business, the following guide comes in handy for you.
STEP 1 – IDENTIFY THE COMMODITY ON THE SITE YOU CHOOSE TO USE
Say you load www.dealsmachine.com now, you see something like this:
This is the home page that you see when you load www.dealsmachine.com from your computer or your phone. To pick any commodity, all you need do is click any of the product category as shown in the red circle. Before picking the commodity however, remember to sign-up with the site and log in to start shopping. Once you sight a certain product that you find attractive, click it and you see something like the image in step two.
STEP TWO – ADD IDENTIFIED PRODUCT TO CART
Once you select the product and it shows the page below, click the ‘Add to Cart’ button as shown by the red arrow. This will take you straight to your shopping cart where you can immediately checkout or add other commodities. The page you see is the image below (please make sure you read product details before buying so you are not getting the information wrong).
Once you click the ‘Add to Cart’ button, the page will redirect to the shopping cart as shown:
STEP THREE – PROCEED TO CHECKOUT OR CONTINUE SHOPPING
Once you enter the shopping cart, you can continue shopping by clicking the continue shopping button. It will redirect you to the home page and you will select another product you wish to add to the shopping cart. Once you select that commodity too, you will have repeated steps one and two.
Once satisfied with the contents of the shopping cart, the next step is to checkout and pay. You can do this by clicking the ‘Proceed to Checkout’ button circled in red in the picture above. Clicking that will redirect you to the Shipping details page as shown below:
Note that it is possible you have certain DM points in your account based on periodic promotions by the company. You will find those in the area circled above and this will help reduce your bill by some dollars.
The shipping details page continue down. Note that the customer information section circled in blue below is information you would have supplied in the course of signing up to the website. Make sure you enter the correct area zip code for your area in Nigeria to avoid having the package shipped to the wrong address. To confirm your area zip code, you can visit the NIPOST page www.nigeriapostcodes.com and enter your area details.
For shipping method, select the flat rate shipping. You should note that not all commodities sold on these websites are listed for free shipping. If you selected a product that is under the free shipping arrangement, the cost in front of the flat rate shipping will indicate $0.00. The product I am buying in this case is not under the free shipping plan. The good news is, most household items you may want to import are under the free shipping plan.
Make sure you also check the ‘Need Tracking Number’ box as shown with the red arrow within the red circle above. The tracking number is useful so that you can trace the location of your package while it ships to Nigeria. While this is not compulsory, it gives you some rest of mind to know that your package is moving, just for an additional $1.99.
You may also want to add shipping insurance to your order by clicking the box as shown with the green arrow above. This is also not compulsory, but it gives your order some more layer of safety to know that if anything goes wrong, you are insured against loss or damage.
When you are done with these, scroll down the page to click the ‘Place Your Order’ button as shown below, which will redirect you to the payment page. Before clicking the ‘Place Your Order’ button shown by the red arrow, select the paypal option as shown in the red circle below then proceed to place your order. This will redirect you to the page where you make payment with your Naira Mastercard and create a Paypal profile for future transactions:
STEP FOUR – PAY AND COMPLETE THE ORDER
Once you arrive at the payment page, you will see something like this:
Enter all the required details as shown and click Agree and Create Account. Note that the CSC of your Mastercard is the three digit number written at the back of your card. Some banks write a five-digit number instead. In such a case, pick the last three digits as your CSC.
Once you click agree and create account, the rest of the process is cupcake.
STEP FIVE – RECEIVE TRACKING NUMBER AND BEGIN THE WAIT
Once you have successfully made payment, in about two days, dealsmachine will process your order and send you a notification that looks like this:
Once you receive this notification, copy the tracking number as circled in the image above and visit www.postnl.post to begin tracking your package movement. The PostNL homepage looks like this:
Paste the tracking number into the box shown by the red arrow and click find. The package should begin to reflect on the PostNL tracking page by the third day you received the tracking number. The progress of tracking will look like this:
Saralovelyhome on its own end has a different approach entirely which you will get to know once you study their page carefully.
